Power Fundamentals

MVA

Megavolt-ampere is apparent power at utility or substation scale. A transformer rated 100 MVA does not necessarily provide 100 MW of usable real power unless power factor, loading limits, cooling, redundancy, and utility operating constraints support it.

Conditions precedent

Conditions precedent are events or requirements that must occur before a party is obligated to close, perform, or commence payment. Data center transactions often condition obligations on power, zoning, permits, title, environmental, and financing milestones.

Nameplate capacity

Nameplate capacity is the rated maximum output or throughput printed by the manufacturer or assigned in a registry. It is a starting point, not a guarantee of continuous deliverability under real operating, temperature, redundancy, or utility constraints.

Stormwater management

Stormwater management covers how runoff from roofs, roads, parking, substations, and graded land is collected, treated, detained, or discharged. Large data center campuses can create significant impervious area and drainage obligations.
